Rabat - U.S. President Barrack Obama voiced hope Morocco can play a leading role in bringing Arabs and Israelis together in order to solve the conflict in the Mid-East.

"I hope Morocco will be a leader in bridging gaps between Israel and the Arab world," said Obama in a message sent to king Mohammed VI.

He said the sovereign, as chairman of the Al Quds Committee, can contribute to constructive collaboration among the committee members to achieve "a comprehensive peace that includes a two-state solution and an early resolution of the Arab-Israeli conflict."

The U.S. President also hailed the personal dedication of king Mohammed VI in improving interfaith and cross-cultural dialogue, as well as his efforts and those of the Moroccan government "to build the relationships we need to face today's serious challenges."

Voicing readiness to work with Morocco for peace talks for the region’s people, Obama made it clear that such negotiations can only succeed "if we can convince the parties to engage constructively."

The U.S. president, who set the rules for the success of the Israeli-Palestinian talks, stressed that Israel has to "stop settlements, dismantle outposts, and remove roadblocks." For the Palestinians, he went on, "that means continuing to build up their security forces to confront terrorism, ending incitement, and reforming their institutions to build a Palestinian state.", Obama urged on Arab states to provide financial and political support to the Palestinian Authority, and to build on the Arab Peace Initiative to contribute to solving the conflict.

Raising the issue of the Sahara, the U.S. President insisted the UN-led negotiations are the “appropriate forum to achieve a mutually agreed solution.”

“I share your commitment to the UN-led negotiations as the appropriate forum to achieve a mutually agreed solution,” he said, hHe also recalled the suffering endured by the Sahara people because of the conflict, voicing will to engage with Morocco to achieve a solution to the conflict.

“My government will work with yours and others in the region to achieve an outcome that meets the people's need for transparent governance, confidence in the rule of law, and equal administration of justice,” he said.

Obama described bilateral relations with Morocco as “historic”, and voiced willingness to work with king Mohammed VI to further reinforce them.
